Candolim is the first beach that can be approached from the capital city of Panaji. Besides a place of tourist interest, Candolim has historic significance as well. The founder of science of hypnotism, Father Abbe Faria, was born here. Candolim is also the place where the Goans launched first revolt against Portuguese.

Predominantly Catholic in nature but all religions are catered for here. Numerous celebrations and festivals take place during the year including Diwali and Holi festivals and are well worth experiencing. Discovered by hippies, Calangute is said to be the Queen of Beaches in Goa. Tourists frequent the Baga-Calangute-Candolim stretch considered a haven for water-sport activities, including parasailing, water-skiing, banana and bump rides. It became the first village to be entirely converted to Christianity in Bardez by the Franciscans during Portuguese rule.

Sunburn, the electronic dance music festival, is held on Candolim Beach. The festival is an amalgamation of music, food, shopping and entertainment. CNN ranked the festival as the ninth best in the world in 2009. Held over three days, Sunburn festival has multiple stages with artists playing simultaneously daily. Crocodile and dolphin spotting, fishing and trips to nearby islands are organised by boat operators. Baga which is also accessible from the Anjuna Beach, is lined with restaurants and shops.

Though it is difficult to find individual accommodation here, there are a few hotels with restaurants attached. One can find befitting alternatives for all pockets for lodging and eating options. Those who like to steer clear from the touristy clamour can opt for the lesser known beaches of Morjem, Asweem and Mardem further north. For the backpacker crowd it is bit expensive though.
